February 2009 Newsletter
Britain in Bloom 2009
Welcome to our first Newsletter for 2009 in preparation
for our entry into Britain in Bloom. Judging for Britain
in Bloom will be in the first fortnight in August and we
have 6 months to plan, prepare and plant for Judging Day.
The AGM will be our first opportunity to present our plans
to the village and to seek volunteers to help with the work
that will be involved with the Britain in Bloom Entry. We
shall again be seeking sponsorship for certain projects,
sites and locations in the village, in cash, kind or labour!
, We are also running our usual “Sponsor-a Tub”
, and they are listed overleaf. Please let any committee
member know if you want to sponsor a tub or bed and we will
try to let you have the tubs you have requested –
but as usual we have to work on first come, first served!.
Our first Fund Raising event for the year will be the Quiz
to be held in the Village Hall on Saturday 7th March.
Quiz Night
The Annual Quiz to raise funds for our Britain in Bloom entry will be
held in the Village Hall at 7.30 pm on Saturday 7th March 2009. Tickets
will be on sale in the Post Office, and from Committee Members, they are
£4.00 per head, include a Pie and Pea Supper and there will be a Cash Bar.
Why not form a team of Friends and Neighbours and enter this most popular event?.
If you are able to donate a Raffle Prize please see one of the Committee -
Thank-you!
AGM and Briefing for the Year
The AGM of Appleton in Bloom will be held in the Lord Nelson at 7:30 pm
on Monday 9th March 2009. The AGM should only take about 10 minutes and
we will then discuss preparations for campaign for our Britain in Bloom
entry. Do come and support your village entry!.
New Volunteers
Out first planning meeting for the year was held in the
Lord Nelson on the 19th January. We are pleased with the
response and we hope to recruit more volunteers at the AGM.
If you would like to help in any way please let us know.
You might consider adopting a patch near your home or undertake
to litter pick and tidy an area of the village whilst going
for a walk; every little bit helps to raise the visual impact
of the village.
Please come along to the AGM with your ideas to help us
win GOLD in 2009.
