Yorkshire in Bloom Summer Judging Thursday 24th July 2008
It is just 3 weeks to go to the Summer Judging for Yorkshire in Bloom and we
are asking you to help us make Appleton Wiske the best village in Yorkshire
once again. Please pull out the stops for a final boost in the preparations
for the 24th of July.
Our Judges are again Sue Hoyle and Lee Senior, both from West Yorkshire.
They were impressed by our Spring displays, and the work done over the winter,
and have agreed to give us a slightly longer period for the Summer Judging.
The Judging route will begin at the Village Hall at 10.00 a.m.
Summer planting is now complete and we are asking everyone to do all that they
can in their own front gardens and in the immediate area of their houses,
every little bit helps to raise the visual impact of the village. The key
lies in the detail, the weeding of borders and flower beds, making sure
that there is no litter lurking in the hedges and pathways, and that
flowers are dead headed after flowering to encourage fresh blooms.
Fundraising and Sponsorship
Many thanks to those who gave contributed so generously to sponsoring the tubs
and other floral displays. We are particularly grateful to the Village Hall
Committee who has contributed to the cost of the new boxes and planters in the
Village Hall Car Park. They provide a wonderful splash of colour that brightens
up the whole area.
Thanks to our new Volunteers
We are pleased to report that we have had a fresh injection of volunteers
to help with Yorkshire in Bloom this year. The latest meeting held in the Lord
Nelson at the beginning of June has given our efforts a fresh impetus and is
most encouraging ~ Thank you!
There is a considerable amount of maintenance involved with "Yorkshire in Bloom".
It includes painting, minor repairs, varnishing, woodworking and weedkilling.
Please contact one of the Committee members if you are able to help in any way.
Street Sweeping
Hambleton DC will be sweeping the streets on the 23rd of July.
Please keep your cars off the road wherever possible. We also hope that
they will sweep the pavements as well.
