Yorkshire in Bloom GOLD Award Winners in 2006 & 2007

Yorkshire in Bloom Spring Judging will take place on the morning of

Tuesday 1st April 2008

The date is earlier than usual but there are external reasons why we have to be ready on April Fool’s Day!! Our Judges this year, for both Spring and Summer Judging, will be Sue Hoyle and Lee Senior, both from West Yorkshire. After our success last year we have set ourselves a high standard to achieve again.

We are planting up at the moment in preparation for the judging and the Village Green grass has been cut for the first time. We would ask everyone to do what they can to tidy up their gardens and the immediate area around their houses; every little bit helps to raise the visual impact of the village.

Fundraising & Sponsorship
We had a very successful Quiz on 23 February and raised over £700 for our entry this year. We shall be running our usual “Sponsor-a Tub” again and a list of tubs is given overleaf. Please let any committee member know if you want to sponsor a tub or bed and we will try to let you have the tubs you have requested – but as usual we have to work on first come, first served.

Thanks to our new volunteers
We are pleased to report that we have had a fresh injection of volunteers to help with Yorkshire in Bloom this year. The open meeting held on 27th February identified lead people for the various elements of our entry and we are most grateful for their involvement.

AGM and Briefing for Spring Judging
The AGM of Appleton in Bloom will be held in the Lord Nelson at 7:30 pm on Wednesday 26th March 2008. The AGM should only take about 10 minutes and we will then discuss preparations for Spring Judging. Do come and support your village entry!

Street Sweeping
Hambleton District Council will be bringing their road and pavement sweeping machines into the village on Monday 31st March 2008. Please try and move your vehicles if possible to allow access to the kerbs, drains and gullies.

….. and finally
Please contact any of the Appleton in Bloom Team if you can help in any way – we won’t burden you with anything you don’t want to do. We need people who want to keep “their patch” looking attractive.
