Gold - and Best Village!!
At the Yorkshire in Bloom Awards Ceremony held in Hull 4th September, Appleton Wiske again achieved the Gold standard, but this year also took top spot in the Village category.
The judges were very impressed in both Spring and Summer as shown by their comments:

"We were accompanied throughout by enthusiastic members of Appleton in Bloom, for whom involvement is of a high order. Rain could not impair this very good presentation that highlighted the hard work done by all. It was most encouraging to meet and talk to schoolchildren at the School Pond and at the Junior Bloomers Sensory Bed. The village centre, with all its features, deserves praise."

As shown by the judges' summary above and the detailed comments below, the result is due to the effort put in by so many people within the village - watering, mowing, tending beds and baskets, clearing gutters and much more. Also we could not have achieved the Gold standard without your financial contributions whether it be sponsorship or turning up to the annual quiz. So the committee would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped us, in whatever way and however small - it is appreciated and without your wholehearted support we could not continue. Using their own words, the judges particularly liked:
